The newest kids: Tarzan, Jane and Cheetah. Tarzan and Cheetah were adopted 3/1/09 Tarzan really became a favorite quickly. They were all very shy when we got them. Tarzan was the first to come out of his shell. He's a very lovey, purry fellow. Such a sweetheart.. he should of been named Romeo, as I knew it would be hard to let him go.

Jane is now left by herself. She'll come up to us on the couch and be lovey and purr. But it still very skittish when we try to approach her. We have to wait til she comes to us.

Also we have Solitaire. He'll be out of quarantine this Thursday. He was found by a dog.. or rather he found the dog. A couple was out walking their dog, and Solitaire came up to him. He's a little older than the others, about 4 months now. He has been absolutely awesome. He has been super friendly from the beginning. He is a little biter though, which is typical of stray kitties, especially when they're by themselves. Aragorn has already gotten in... twice, and they immediately started playing. Unfortunately, I had to remove Aragorn, as Solitaire still has quarantine. (It's a precaution of 2 weeks to make sure the new kitty doesn't have any bugs that he may pass onto the other kitties.) Aragorn and Solitaire are very similar in personalities. Very vocal, playful, always on the go. They'll pair up quickly.

Arwen and Gimli

We had a very busy couple of weekends. We had 7 kitties get spayed/neutered on the 26th. It was also our week to go into Petsmart. Denver had a very rough time.Arwen took awhile longer, she was whiny, clingy, and sleepy for the next 2 days.

Everyone's incisions have been healing great. Halloween night, I was doing my routine check of everyone, and noticed that Arwen had a large bump, larger than a golf ball that was very spongy. Turns out it was hernia, late night vet visit. She has a cone on until her stitches come out so she won't bite them out. She's was whiny the first day or two, and has been clingy at times. She's bouncing back as much as she can for wearing a cone.

On Sunday, I was messing with all the kitties, getting ready to go to the Adoptathon and noticed that Gimli was lighter than he seemed before. After the adoptathon, I weighed him at the facility, and he was 3.55. On 10/30 he was 4.o. So this is huge drop in weight. He's been at Oberlin since yesterday morning. Dr Wages found a clump in his intestines. She can't tell what it is. But in her voicemail this morning, she said it was clearing up some, but is still there. So hopefully he'll be able to come home tonight and he'll be fine. He wasn't acting any different that usual, but was just getting lighter.

Aragorn is also seeming to have loose stools, and I caught him trying to use the bathroom on some towels instead of the litter box.

It's been a long week and very long weekend with kitty issues. Hopefully this is it.

Update

Sadie's leg seemed to fix itself. She got better the next day and is back to her playful self 2 days after we noticed her limping. We figure she probably just had a bruise and was being a drama queen about it. She's so little that it bothered her that much. She loves her mommy. She will follow me around everywhere. As if on cue, when I turn off the shower and open the door she's standing right there. She'll lick my wet feet and then lick the shower, apparently the automatic water bowl isn't enough for her sometimes. I'll call her from across the room, and she'll enthusiastically come bounding over to me. She and Denver love to sleep on my chest, it's a little purr lullaby when I go to sleep :)

Paxton, was cleared for adoption. We were all very very happy. Now, Paxton can play with the other kitties! Cheryl asked if I wanted her to take her 3 back, and I said no because I'm getting attached. Kelly, our roommate is getting attached to Denver, so we're hoping that if we keep him around, maybe she'll adopt him :) But, then I was thinking, Paxton doesn't have a buddy. So I sent Wrigley back home with Cheryl. I got a report from Cheryl later that night that Wrigley and Paxton were playing already, yay! Since Paxton has been on his own the whole time he's been in our program, it'll help having Wrigley around to show him kitty things.

I haven't gone to any adoptathons in the past 2 weekends, I've been working. Erik sleeps during the day so he can't take them either. But hopefully, Cici and/or Bianca will get adopted this weekend. I'm dropping the two of them off at the facility, and going to the Apex Petsmart for our Fill the Truck event. We collect donations of pet supplies for our facility and for foster homes, hopefully this'll be a success!!!

poor Sadie

This morning when I went to check on the kitties, Sadie was cute as usual, meowing for me to pick her up. She complained like something was hurting her, so I put her down. I then noticed she was limping and not using her front right paw at all. Nothing feels or looks wrong, she just doesn't seem to be using it. She's getting around fine, jumping up on the chair, etc. We're keeping an eye on our baby, and hoping it's going to heal itself. We'll see later tonight how she's doing. She's so sweet, and looks pitiful :(

On another note, we're now giving Metronidazole to the LOTR kids. IT SUCKS!! It's a bitter tasting tablet that falls apart easily, and they HATE it. Maybe we'll get something down. They wouldn't eat the pill pockets we had last night, so maybe we can try that again tonight and get somewhere. WHAT FUN!!

Kitty foster

So I have decided to use this as my journal and crazy antics of being a foster mommy. I work with a non-profit group, Second Chance Pet Adoptions.

Currently, Erik and I have 3 cats of our own: Teferi and Guenhwyvar are 1 1/2. Teferi is a gorgeous tabby with a long body. He is our Uncle kitty, he has been very accepting of the other kitties and takes care of them like thier Uncle. He is very friendly, but will hide when we have lots of company if he's not up for it.

Guen is a beautiful long hair black kitty. She is very shy, even with us, she was shy before we got her and has never come around. She has her spots in the house where she'll let us pet her when she lets us. She will look at you like she wants attention, but then runs because she's too scared.

Liliana is 10 months. She is a long-haired tortie with a tortie-tude. She loves attention, and will love on you forever. But when she's done, she can get snippy. She has been the least accepting of the fosters, but has never hurt them, just bats a soft paw and complains.

We have 10 foster kitties.

**ADOPTABLE**Cici is Lili's sister and is 10 months. She can be shy at times. She loves to be petted, but doesn't like to be picked up. She hides when she knows it's time to go to an adoptathon, and curls into a ball when I pick her up to put her in her carrier. She doesn't show well at adoptathons, she's very shy.

**ADOPTABLE**Bianca is 8 months and was transferred from another foster home. She was the only kitten left at that foster home at that time, and was not happy with it. She is very rambunctious and loves to play, sometimes to the point where she is wheezing from being so excited. She is big ball of fine, but she is a black kitty, which makes her harder to adopt out.

Cammie is our current mommy cat. She is approximately 2 years old and is a white w/ big black spots kitty. She is very sweet and loves attention. She is not big on being picked up, and HATES getting medicine. We've been medicating her pretty much since we've had her since August. She's had very soft stools, and is now on Metronidazole to treat that (it's a bitter tablet that she hates. She has had ear mites that are slowly going away, which she eventually passed onto her kids. She and her kids are in their own room until all their issues go away.

Her children all look like her with differences. They are 3 months old and chunky. Arwen and Gimli are mirror opposites of each other. Arwen has black on the left side of her face, and Gimli the opposite. Arwen is more reserved and smaller, as she is the only girl in the bunch. Gimli is a crazy terror, sweet as can be. Aragorn is the biggest of the kids, and will let you know that he wants attention and that you shouldn't be giving anyone else any. Legolas is mostly white with black on his head and various other spots. He is the climber of the bunch. They are the most vocal of the litters of kittens we've had, but they're so fun. I hope we can get them healthy and debugged so they can enjoy the other kitties and the house. They're getting too big to be contained in one room and it breaks my heart everytime I have to leave them in their when I leave.

Our newest to the house are Wrigley, Sadie and Denver. They came from the same foster home that Bianca did. Cheryl had the three of them in a room, and had another kitty, Paxton, who was ready to come out of quarantine pending fiv testing and join the other 3. Unfortunately Paxton tested positive, a very hard time for a foster mommy. Paxton has to stay by himself for 30 days until he can be retested. He was in a bathroom, that he is quickly outgrowing, and Cheryl's adult cats wouldn't accept the other 3 small kitties, so she asked me to take them so that Paxton could have a large room that he room to play in.

**ADOPTABLE**Wrigley is 3 months old and a huge cuddler. He was found on the side of the road by someone who works at Petsmart. He lets you know he wants attention and rubs on you and squeaks until he get the attention he's looking for. He has gotten lots of attention at adoptathons, and is sweet as can be to everyone, he was very good with kids this past weekend. He was neutered a little over a week ago and is the only kitty of the 3 ready for adoption.

Sadie and Denver were found at the Walmart parking lot in Brier Creek when they were about 2 months old. They are now 3 months old, 2 weeks younger than Wrigley. They are smaller kitties, Sadie is a tabby with tan spots on her back. She is a little peanut, and is most likely going to be very petite. She and her brother can purr up a storm, they start purring as soon as they're around you. Sadie is much more sedate than her brother. Denver loves to play and if something moves he has to find out about it. All 3 of them are lap kitties and will sleep with you, it's a nice melody hearing 3 kitties purring around you. :)
